Western Maryland Hagerstown Hotshot LEGACY Set

In 1971 Alco FA’s were a vanishing sight across NorthAmerica. Railfans flocked to the Western Marylandwhere four units were still working out their final yearson the railroad. The only Alco cab units on the roster,the WM ordered four FA-2s in 1941 because EMD modelsweren’t readily available. By the late 1960s, the fourfound themselves operating mostly out of Hagerstown,Maryland on freights as well as helper serviceon Williamson Hill. Only one received the “Circus” paintscheme before they were leased to the Reading andthen sold in 1972. Their story didn’t end there – all fourbecame power cars on the Long Island where railfanswould again celebrate the “last of the FA’s” decadeslater.We pay tribute to the Wild Mary in its final and mostcolorful years in this new set which includes a pair ofpowered FA-2s, 60’ Boxcar, 50’ TOFC flatcar with trailer,100-ton hopper and Northeast style caboose. Allof the cars would have been right at home in theHagerstown area at the time, whether coming off an“Alpha Jet” connection with the Reading or a load oflimestone out of Birdsboro bound for Sparrows Point.
